ned ludd2.0
| “ | They said Ned Ludd was an idiot boy That all he could do was wreck and destroy, and He turned to his workmates and said: Death to Machines They tread on our future and they stamp on our dreams. |
Being a bit of a history buff, the original Ned Ludd has cropped up a few times in my life.
Ned, he liked to smash things ’cause he didn’t get it. They named a whole movement after him.
I wonder who or what will be the 21st century Ned2.0? I am thinking unresponsive school systems.
Who do you vote for as the New Ned?

Hi Tony
You know the old goodie from Margaret Mead “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Bummer for Ned, he wasn’t committed enough
Oh, and that pesky ‘thoughtful’ business too …
Nominations for New Ned – anyone thinking technology is the cause of ills in this world (I meet them daily…)
Nominations for Reverse New Ned – anyone thinking technology is the answer to ills of the world (I meet them daily…)
Critically picking our spots between these two extremes IS the game we and the kids we teach and the powers-that-be need to play.
I had actually used something along these lines with kids in class when talking up this alley and mentioning Ned:
“Smashing machines is great – if we make them better
Any idiot can smash a machine. Fewer can rebuild it, even fewer build a better one. Which one are you?”
The penny dropped (for some).
I end my esoteric, abstract note. A good little poke this one. Cheers.
It would have been John Howard. I remember the election debate when Howard was talking about Education and he just sounded sooo out of touch.
An thoughtful reflection and I really enjoyed that image of Ned2.0.
