Ok Tuncurry staff, you have made it this far. Well done.
(For other visitors, please add your views on the broader web2.0 changes you have seen in the last 4 years, why is it so powerful as a learning tool and what are the implications for education)
Tuncurry staff, you now know what these DET NSW and Web2.0 words mean and are ready to post your answers, what is the next step. Now reduced to 7 words, see if you understand the implications of these, not just the definitions.

DET what we’ll be in if DET doesn’t give us a laptop & we have to buy our own.
DER what I say to a GenZ when they ask me do I know what myspace is. (yep agreed Mick, easy to define a word, some idiot set that basic task for Professional Learning I hear. But I also wonder what the deeper learning implications are for schools that don’t engage? TS)
CCP a ‘computer cool person’, a person who is comfortable using a PC .
IWB like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), but refers to an unhappy post gen y female blogger (irritable woman blogger).

VC very cross….how I feel when my lesson is (yet again) ruined by a technology failure.

(He’s back, we have a keen one here, good on you Mick, but thats 15 minutes)

Blogs=the kind of stool passed by a teacher when they think the computer has wiped a whole class of reports; (deleted in the name of preserving Mick’s HTT rep).
Will that get through the moderation process? (sorry no Mick, our role as teachers would be to moderate comments before publication, students quickly learn to self moderate and write for a real world audience. They also enjoy the feedback via comments on a job well done, so well done Mick, love your post so far)
Ta TS

I will have to ask you about the remaining acronyms. (please do Geoff, happy to help anyone having a go)
Your presentation at the staff meeting really helped bring the world of the DER literally to our finger tips. Maybe it was the catalyst that was needed to start us here at GLC. Hows that I used 2 acronyms, but the thing that really worries me is where is spell check, you know what some maths teachers are like at spelling
Geoff
(I’m impressed with your efforts Geoff! How easy was that wiki to establish? Keep playing you are doing a top job. Try all the links back at the thought provokers wiki, answers are provided because thats what web2.0 is about; sharing the power of collaboration in a read/write digital world, no wonder kids engage with it and learn)
Hello Tuncurry,
Congratulations on making your way through the minefield of terms. I have recently moved from working in a K – 12 where we worked on our web 2.0 journey. One thing we found interesting was that our students were as unaware of the terms as we were. We started to work together in finding out about them and we all came to the table with ideas on how they could be integrated into our classes. Out of your list I think one of the most powerful is creativecommons as it teaches us all about knowledge sharing and that we learn best through remixing, remodelling, innovating and sharing ideas.

Wikis are web sites that let any visitor become a participant: you can create or edit the actual site contents without any special technical knowledge or tools. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection. A wiki is continuously “under revision.” It is a living collaboration whose purpose is the sharing of the creative process and product by many. One famous example is Wiki-pedia, an online encyclopedia with no “authors” but millions of contributors and editors. The word “wiki” comes from Hawaiian language, meaning “quick” or “fast.” (tick)

A man laid sprawled across three entire seats in a theatre.
When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, ”Sorry, sir, but you’re only allowed one seat.”
The man groaned but didn’t budge. The usher became impatient. ”Sir,” the usher said, ”if you don’t get up from there I’m going to have to call the manager.”
Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man.
Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop surveyed the situation briefly.
”All right buddy, what’s your name?”
”Sam,” the man moaned.
‘Where are you from, Sam?” the cop asked.
”The balcony.”

A Russian doctor says, ‘In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks.’
The Texas doctor, not to be outdone, says, ‘You guys are way behind, we recently took a man with no brains out of Texas, put him in the White House for eight years, and now half the country is looking for work.’

A jeweler standing behind the counter of his shop after hours was astounded to see a suspicious looking man in a black ski mask come hurling headfirst through the window.
“What on earth are you up to? What happened?!” he demanded.
“I’m terribly sorry,” said the man, “I forgot to let go of the brick.”
