PLE Diagrams. What’s mine look like?

Published by Mr S at 7:45 pm under professional development, social networking and tagged: , ,

Just trying to make sense of why PLE (or PLN’s) diagrams are a useful concept for learners to understand. Tim’s ponderings got me thinking about something new to me. I think Scott Leslie summarised it best

How connected is my learning?A PLE is clearly not just a set of drawings, but the act of producing such a drawing, such a conceptualization, is an incredibly valuable one… for any learner, regardless of whether they conceive of it as a “PLE” or not. Knowing how you learn, and how you conceive of the structures and relationships that support your learning, is an important step to becoming a master learner.

Again as a total non techy person, just trying to learn something new, the shirt speaks sense  “PLE is People” – I like it.

The Web 2.0 enables educators to network very effectively with other professionals and to build a vast array of contacts and sources of professional learning. Micro-blogging and social networking sites like Twitter are transforming the speed at which people can network. The potential to be part of a web of like-minded people is only limited by the amount of time you are prepared to spend online.

If you are interested in this idea of building a Personal Learning Network (PLN) check out the following:

I’d also suggest setting up Google Reader to house your RSS feeds which saves you from checking sites as updates are ‘fed’ to the reader. Check out my blog

for more information on how to do this.

Finally, you really need a social networking service like Del.icio.us

to organise your bookmarks and share with others.
